HyOx is one of the United States’ first clinical hyperbaric oxygen therapy facilities to achieve accreditation from the Undersea & Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS), the specialty’s gold standard in hyperbaric facility accreditation and recognized by The Joint Commission as a Complementary Accrediting Organization under The Joint Commission’s Cooperative Agreement Initiative. According to the UHMS’s website (www.uhms.org), our accreditation means HyOx meets “the highest standards of care and patient safety through our rigorous evaluation of the adequacy of your facility, equipment, staff and training to ensure the utmost quality is maintained within our specialty.”
Double board-certified physicians (Drs. King and Taryla) in the sub-specialty of hyperbaric medicine in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and Emergency Medicine respectively, establish an evidence-based treatment plan for each patient specific to their complication.
HyOx is the “Official Dive Physical Facility of Georgia Aquarium” in downtown Atlanta assisting its divers and other scuba divers with the medical clearance and check-up needed for safety. Dive physicals are offered both to professional and recreational divers.
Clinical team of nurses and certified hyperbaric technicians are extensively trained in the specialty of hyperbaric medicine.

Our professional affiliations with leading standard-setting organizations in the sub-specialty of hyperbaric medicine and wound care, include:
American Medical Rehabilitation Providers Association (AMRPA): AMRPA is the only national voluntary trade association representing more than 650 inpatient rehabilitation hospitals and units (IRH/Us), hospital outpatient departments (HOPDs), and other settings independent of the hospital, such as comprehensive outpatient rehabilitation facilities (CORFs), rehabilitation agencies, and skilled nursing facilities (SNFs). AMRPA members provide rehabilitation services across multiple health care settings to help patients maximize their health, functional skills, independence, and participation in society so they can return to home, work, or an active retirement.
The American College of Hyperbaric Medicine (ACHM): ACHM was founded to support the clinical applications of therapeutic oxygen in the care and treatment of patients with special focus on those patients with non-healing wounds.
The Undersea and Hyperbaric Medical Society (UHMS): The UHMS is an international nonprofit association serving some 2,000 physicians, scientists, associates and nurses from more than 50 countries in the fields of hyperbaric and dive medicine. The UHMS is an important source of scientific and medical information pertaining to hyperbaric medicine involving hyperbaric oxygen therapy and diving through its bimonthly, peer-reviewed journal, Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine, symposia, workshops, books and other publications. Divers Alert Network (DAN): The largest association of recreational scuba divers in the world, DAN is supported by membership dues and donations. DAN’s mission is to help divers in need of medical emergency assistance and to promote dive safety through research, education, products and diving services.
