Dive Physicals
HyOx is proud to be named “The Official Dive Physical Facility of Georgia Aquarium.” We’re also committed to our diver care partnership and affiliation with the Divers Alert Network as we care for the overall health of scuba divers, whether professional or recreational.
The physiology of diving makes it a physically demanding activity. For many divers, especially with pre-existing conditions, a mandatory physical examination is recommended as certain medical conditions interfere with or prevent safe diving. Atlanta dive physicals conducted by HyOx’s board certified Undersea and Hyperbaric Medicine physicians include:
Medical and dive history review
Complete physical exam with emphasis on neurological and ontological components
Respiratory evaluation
Spirometry
Urinalysis
Other procedures deemed necessary by HyOx physicians
Other services outsourced as part of the comprehensive exam:
Hemoglobin (protein in red blood cells responsible for oxygen delivery to the tissue) or hematocrit (measures the volume of red blood cells compared to the total blood volume or plasma)
Chest x-ray
Any questions regarding components of the dive physical can be addressed by a HyOx patient advocate team member by calling 678.303.3200. We also treat scuba-related injuries - air or gas embolism and decompression illness (“the bends”).
