Delivering hyperbaric oxygen therapy and rehabilitation services to advance wound healing, optimize patient outcomes and improve quality of life

ALERT: Long COVID & Hyperbaric Oxygen Therapy

Updated Sept, 16, 2022

Recent studies have shown the effects of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) on patients
suffering from ongoing issues from testing positive for COVID-19. Lingering physical, cognitive and
cardiac symptoms of chronic COVID, commonly known as “long COVID,” may be mitigated with
hyperbaric medicine delivering oxygen under pressure to diminish the long-term viral
effects in the body on a cellular and vascular level, on the immune system and brain. According to
the CDC, there currently is no test to diagnose post-COVID conditions and there is a recognition
people may have a wide variety of symptoms that could stem from other health problems.

HyOx Medical Treatment Center is monitoring the efficacy of HBOT for long COVID patients (those
experiencing symptoms for more than four weeks after testing positive) and conducting medical
assessments on self and/or physician referred patients for hyperbaric medicine protocols. Please
contact us at 678-303-3200 to schedule a consultation.

The following list of symptoms long COVID people most commonly report is taken from the Centers
for Disease Control website ( https://www.cdc.gov/coronavirus/2019-ncov/long-term-

“Long COVID-19 patients who received pure oxygen treatments saw improvements to damaged brain tissues and their functional cognition compared to others in a study who received regular air, researchers in Israel say.”

Wired Magazine: Aug 17, 2022 Is Oxygen the Answer to Long Covid?

“….It’s called hyperbaric oxygen therapy, and in July Israeli researchers published a study—which Doari participated in—that showed using this technique to deliver massive amounts of oxygen to the body appears to alleviate many of Covid’s cognitive and physical after-effects.”

New England Journal of Medicine: Aug 4, 2022 Hyperbaric Oxygen Might Improve Symptoms in Patients with “Long COVID”

In a randomized trial, 8 weeks of treatment were associated with improvement in cognition, mood, fatigue, and pain

Boston Herald: July 12, 2022 Long COVID treatments: Hyperbaric oxygen therapy could be the key, new study reveals

“A new long COVID study will likely provide hope for the millions of people suffering from the debilitating condition, as researchers on Tuesday revealed that hyperbaric oxygen therapy is the key to a long COVID treatment…..”

Scientific Reports: July 12, 2022 Hyperbaric oxygen therapy improves neurocognitive functions and symptoms of post-COVID condition: randomized controlled trial

“Post-COVID-19 condition refers to a range of persisting physical, neurocognitive, and neuropsychological symptoms after SARS-CoV-2 infection. The mechanism can be related to brain tissue pathology caused by virus invasion or indirectly by neuroinflammation and hypercoagulability. This randomized, sham-control, double blind trial evaluated the effect of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT or HBO2 therapy) on post-COVID-19 patients with ongoing symptoms for at least 3 months after confirmed infection…..”

“Long COVID is a common occurrence following COVID-19 infection. The most common symptom reported is fatigue. Limited interventional treatment options exist. We report the first evaluation of hyperbaric oxygen therapy (HBOT) for long COVID treatment…..”
