Reverse Radiation Injury
If you’ve received radiation treatment for cancer, you may be a candidate for hyperbaric oxygen therapy to resolve symptoms of radiation injury and ensure tissue and bones are well oxygenated pre- and post-surgery.
Radiation treatment for cancer is a breakthrough in modern medicine! If you or a loved one has survived cancer thanks to this treatment, you greatly appreciate its ability to eradicate cancer. However, any treatment can come with undesirable side effects, and radiation is no exception.
Tissues and bones can lose oxygen content during radiation therapy. In some patients, this causes injury in the surrounding areas resulting in soft tissue radionecrosis and osteoradionecrosis. The damaging, gradual effects of radiation therapy may manifest months, even years, after cancer treatment.
At HyOx, we see this in patients who have survived a variety of cancers including, but not limited to, breast cancer, prostate cancer, bladder cancer, head and neck cancers, and skin cancer. We also see hyperbaric oxygen therapy’s success in reducing and resolving radiation complications, preparing patients for successful surgeries, and healing surgeries in previously radiated areas.
Watch as I explain how hyperbaric oxygen therapy reverses radiation injuries.
Video transcription:
“Hyperbaric oxygen therapy is the only treatment that can achieve a reversal in radiation injury in previously radiated tissue and bone decreasing swelling in damaged areas to enhance blood flow. Since ORN is one of many evidence-based conditions HyOx treats, all insurers, including Medicare, cover hyperbaric oxygen therapy prior to and after invasive oral surgery including tooth extraction for head and neck cancer survivors.”
