CASE STUDY

Slowly Progressive Necrotizing Fasciitis — Right Lateral Ankle

Before

After

This 76-year-old female with a history of peripheral vascular disease reported having a difficult, non-healing wound over her right lateral ankle for greater than three months after striking it on a rocking chair. The patient had a recent history of several antibiotic courses without success and a failed attempted skin graft. Wound cultures were positive for multiple organisms including Stenotrophomonas maltophilia, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, and Staphylococcus lugdunensis. The patient was referred to HyOx Medical Treatment Center and participated in 48 hyperbaric treatments in adjunct to oral antibiotics for slowly progressive necrotizing fasciitis.

Result: Healed with wound closure.
