CASE STUDY

Crush Injury — Right Lower Extremity

Before

After

This 46-year-old male was referred to HyOx Medical Treatment Center for hyperbaric oxygen therapy for crush injuries, chronic osteomyelitis and infection from a forklift accident at the workplace in April 2005. The forklift rolled over his right lower extremity. As the forklift driver was attempting to retreat, the machinery rolled across his left ankle. Since the accident, the patient had multiple surgeries and debridements. An Ilizarov apparatus helped straighten the tibia. The patient received 34 hyperbaric oxygen treatments.

Result: The orthopedic surgeon was pleased at hyperbaric oxygen therapy’s ability to accelerate healing and fight off the infection surrounding the surgery.
