CASE STUDY
Compartment Syndrome/Traumatic Ischemia – Right Hand
Before
After
This 34-year-old male was referred to HyOx Medical Treatment Center with compartment syndrome and traumatic ischemia of the right index finger and hand. While inspecting a pinhole leak in a hydraulic-oil line, oil was injected into his finger. The patient underwent an initial fasciotomy within 24 hours and received 10 hyperbaric oxygen treatments. A second fasciotomy was performed followed by a full thickness skin graft and 14 additional hyperbaric oxygen treatments. After the graft healed, the fingers were separated followed by two final hyperbaric treatments.
Result: A partial amputation of distal tip of phalanx index finger with nail bed salvage. Patient returned to work with full sensation and function of his right hand and index finger.
